At Lighthouse General Practice, the safety of our patients, staff and families is our top priority and we are following guidelines for General Practice produced by Queensland Health.

All patients must wear a mask inside the practice where possible and we thank you for bringing your mask to your appointment.

If you have ANY respiratory symptoms at all (this includes sore ears, sinus congestion, fever, slight runny nose, "daycare coughs" in kids etc), there are several options for consultation:
1. A telephone consultation
2. A video-call (telehealth) consultation; or
3. A carpark consultation. This option means we will see you for an examination if needed in an area of our back carpark. We ask that you perform a Rapid Antigen Test for Coronavirus prior to having a carpark consultation and advise us beforehand if this is positive.

These changes were instituted as a part of our Covid management. We understand that over time government regulations have changed and relaxed in some circumstances however we are fortunate that the vast majority of our patients are happy to comply with these arrangements going forward. Most also appreciate the fact that it means when sitting in the waiting room there is far less chance of then coming into contact with a respiratory virus themselves.

There is street parking in front of the practice on Bay Terrace as well as on the streets nearby. There is also a carpark for you to use behind the practice. The entrance to this is on Pine Street, in between the Bayside Health Nook and the Police Station. There is an entrance into the practice waiting room directly from this carpark. A wheelchair friendly carpark is also available here.

We recognise that the medicare rebate for medical services has not increased at an appropriate rate to cover the cost of providing this care. This translates into a gap (out of pocket fee) for our services ( "private billing"). Our standard gap is $60.60.

We have reduced this to a $38.35 "gap" for children 12 and under, and a $50.60 gap for low income (concession card holders/pensioners/DSP).

Longer appointments (over 20 minutes), attract a slightly higher out of pocket gap.

Saturday rates attract additional out of pocket fees, as per our billings page.

Certain special services attract different fees, to reflect complexity or equipment needed for these services.

If you require clarification of your costs of your appointment, please request when booking at reception.

In most circumstances, we are able to provide the best care to you with face to face consultations. At other times, particularly if you have respiratory symptoms, phone or video consultations are an excellent alternative that we are happy to provide.

Telehealth (phone or video) consultations may attract the same fees as face to face consultations.

Please note that it is a medicare requirement that you must have been seen for a face to face consultation at Lighthouse General Practice before you can have a telehealth consult with a medicare rebate. If you have not had a face to face appointment previously, we are still able to do a telehealth appointment however you will not be eligible to claim a rebate through medicare.

Yes! Our GP's and fabulous nursing staff are extremely skilled at doing all of the checks required at each scheduled child health check and immunisation.
Childhood immunisations are bulk billed and the information is automatically sent to the Australian Immunisations Register (which links to your child care rebate eligibility).
Please feel free to talk to us about catch up immunisations and ask any question at all regarding your child's immunisations.

Sure do! We all just happen to be female GP's at the moment but we are not an exclusively women's health practice. As GP's we pride ourselves on being able to help every member of your family with a wide variety of issues.

Unfortunately we have had to close our books to new patients due to the rapid growth of our practice. This is to ensure that our current patients, and families of current patients, are able to access timely care when needed. We appreciate your understanding and will update this as things change.

We have a lovely little space in our waiting room that is set up with drawing materials for children to use while waiting to be seen. There is also a lovely green space in the Wynnum Neighbourhood Centre directly next door to us on Bay Terrace. If your kids are more comfortable moving around and while waiting, please feel free to wait in this outdoor space once you have let us our reception team know that you have arrived for your appointment.

Results of any blood tests or radiology etc are sent directly to the referring doctor. They will then be reviewed and you will receive a text message from us.

If there is something URGENT on your results that we need to talk to you about within a couple of days we will either call you directly or ask you to make an urgent results appointment within 2-3 days.

If something comes up on the test results that we want to discuss with you, you will receive a message asking you to make a NON URGENT appointment for review within 2-3 weeks. We will contact you (as above) if we need to see you earlier than this. If however you are concerned and feel you need to be seen more urgently, please do make an appointment sooner or talk to reception or one of our nurses about this.

If your results are all ok, you will receive a message saying that your results are reassuring, but to please book a review appointment if you still have any concerns or questions.

PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATION FROM US AT ALL REGARDING YOUR RESULTS. We are confident that these systems work well, but like everything, sometimes things slip through the cracks so this ensures that nothing gets missed.
